Overview
Save the Future Initiative (SAFI) is a local NGO duly registered in the Republic of Kenya to promote sustainable livelihoods in vulnerable communities through charitable grassroots development activities. SAFI engages in activities that promote environmental management, climate-smart agriculture (CSA), water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), health, renewable energy, among others. SAFI also provides interventions that are meant to provide relief to vulnerable communities, including short-term provision of basic needs to the most deserving members of the community where necessary. Through these initiatives, we hope to be a key enabler and catalyst towards the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular: SDG 2, 5, 8, 11, 13 and 17. The organization has its head office in Kisumu and a satellite office in Nairobi but its operations and activities are spread across the country, with specific focus on the Counties along the Lake Basin region.
Leadership
The organization comprises a rich team of dynamic and passionate professionals with diverse and relevant backgrounds to offer insights and perspectives toward the achievement of its goals. This team is supported by an extension of well experienced associates and access to other valuable pool of human resources through partnerships.
Our Team
Chairperson
Evans is an experienced Microbiologist with vast practical knowledge spanning areas like biological, microbiological and chemical tests in medical laboratories. He has a deep academic background holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Microbiology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology – JKUAT, Kenya.
Formerly of The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, Evans is currently the Managing Director of Laboquip Ltd and we are confident in his leadership as the chairperson of SAFI management to deliver impactful outcomes in our target communities.
Secretary
Amos Okello has a wide-ranging strategic and policy-level leadership and advisory experience. He has served as a County Chief Officer in charge of Governance; Lectured at University of Nairobi, School of Political Science and Public Administration; Visiting Research Fellow at the South Africa Research Chairs’ Initiative (SARChI) at the University of Johannesburg and Coordinator for Professional Development Program at Aga Khan University (EA). Amos holds a Master of Arts Degree in Peace, Security and Development from Kings College London (UK), a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations from United States.
International University (USIU) and a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Nairobi. He is a Fellow: African Leadership Centre at King’s College London; Chartered Management Institute UK.He has a passion for social justice and sustainable livelihood, including human rights, climate justice, and poverty eradication. SAFI is pleased to have him as a key member of the Board and we are confident in his wealth of experience and knowledge to help drive our organization to achieve its mission.
Treasurer
Petnora holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Systems Management from Kenya Methodist University, Nairobi and a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from KMTC, Machakos. She is a Clinical Officer duly registered with the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya and worked and served in various donor funded development projects in different capacities including but not limited to team leadership.
As a key board member and official of SAFI, our organization will tap into her proven leadership ability, data collection and management especially, in organization of donor funds and projects to credible success. Petnora also advises the Board on issues related to gender mainstreaming in climate change adaptation.
Board Member
Ivy is a Law student at the University of Nairobi, in her final (Fourth) year. She has a master’s level in French and CS Studies Level 1 and 2. She currently serves as a legal advisor to the Board, leads the youth portfolio, and acts as a link between SAFI and university/college students whose voices are critical in climate change discourse. She is an active member of our board and keen on steering the organization towards a compliant and successful delivery of the agendas.
